Enjoy Kangaroo Valley

Enjoy a stroll around the village. The national trust listed village has some beautiful old buildings housing great cafes, restaurants and shops. Or visit an art gallery, many of the galleries exhibit works of local artists.

Take the scenic drive up Barrengarry Mountain and visit Fitzroy Falls, in Morton National Park. These spectacular falls tumble 82 metres to the floor of the ravine and can be viewed from an easily accessible lookout. There are also other lovely bushwalks there that offer dramatic views.

Visit Manning Lookout near Fitzroy Falls. Take the first turning on the right at the top of Barrangarry Mountain. A short drive will bring you to a 150m walking track that leads to a lookout offering spectacular views over Kangaroo Valley. A view not to be missed!

Walk across Hampden Bridge. Built over the Kangaroo River and opened in 1898, this structure is the oldest suspension bridge in Australia and is Kangaroo Valley's most famous landmark. From the car park at the bridge a track leads down to the river.

Enjoy a drive through dairy country to beautiful Upper Kangaroo River. Take a swim at Flat Rock, walk up to Minnie Ha Ha falls, or have a picnic on the riverbank near the old hall. A lovely way to spend a few hours in the country!

Go for a bushwalk. There are 25 different walks in and around Kangaroo Valley, ranging from gentle sightseeing strolls around the village, through to difficult walks for experienced bush walkers. The National Parks and Wildlife publication "Walks Guide - Kangaroo Valley and Adjacent National Parks" describes all of these walks in detail and is available from many of the shops in Kangaroo Valley.

Enjoy a drink or a meal at the historic Friendly Inn. This wonderful old pub has a bistro and a lovely beer garden out the back. There is often live music at the weekends.

Spend a few hours at Bendeela picnic ground. Here you will find BBQ facilities, public toilets, swimming and canoe launching areas in beautiful green fields beside the Kangaroo River. A great place to go at dusk for wombat spotting.

Visit Tallowa Dam. This tranquil lake is set in the Australian bush with canoe launching facilities, fishing, BBQ's, public toilets and a picnic area. The dam was completed in 1977, and supplements Sydney's water supply. It is the centrepiece of Sydney Water Board's Shoalhaven Scheme.

Enjoy a refreshing dip in the village swimming pool. This 25m community run swimming pool is at the Valley show grounds, Osbourne Park, next to the Kangaroo Valley Hall.

Drive up Cambewarra Mountain towards Nowra. At the hairpin bend at the top of the mountain take the left turn to Cambewarra Lookout and tea rooms, for one of the best views of the Shoalhaven that you are ever likely to see. While driving along the winding road to the lookout, you will catch glimpses of the stunningly beautiful valley below. When you reach Cambewarra Lookout, you will find tearooms, a picnic area, public toilets, and spectacular views over the Shoalhaven and Jervis Bay. Probably the best view of the Shoalhaven you will ever see!

Visit the Pioneer Museum Park. A unique look at the valley's past with original buildings, photos and artefacts. An audio system brings the exhibits to life and there are fun things for the kids to do too. There are also several great bush walks to be accessed from here all for a nominal entrance fee.

Enjoy a bike ride through the countryside. Either bring your own bike or hire a mountain bike in the village, and enjoy a ride along sealed country roads or mountain tracks.

Relax and watch the sunset across the escarpment. The panorama of Kangaroo Valley is also listed by the National Trust in recognition of it's breathtaking beauty.

Enjoy a picnic at one of many locations around the village. There are picnic and BBQ facilities on both sides of the river beside the Hampden Bridge. There are also BBQ facilities at the showground.

Take a stroll next door to the cemetery - an hour can be well spent here reading the pioneer headstones and taking a step back in history. Many of the names here are still represented by their descendants in the Valley.

Walk, jog or cycle along the walkway that stretches from the village to Hampden Bridge (about 4k). You can reward yourself at the café on the other side of the bridge!

Take a day-trip to one of many nearby villages and attractions. Close by are the towns of Berry, historic Berrima, Nowra, and the quiet golden beaches of the Shoalhaven. Jervis Bay, a stunningly beautiful marine park surrounded by Booderee National Park and adjacent villages, is only 45 minutes drive via Nowra on the Princes Highway.

Or... go nowhere and do nothing and simply enjoy the peace and serenity of this beautiful area.
